Owen Kaye’s Relentless Pursuit of Precision with his Time Attack E90 BMW M3

For Owen Kaye, building a car has never been about chasing a single fast lap—it’s about creating something repeatable. Something balanced. Something you can trust, lap after lap, event after event.
His platform of choice, a purpose-built BMW E90 M3.
From Street Car to Competition Machine
“I’ve owned the car since 2013. I chose the E90 M3 because it has so much of what I love in one platform: a great chassis, a really special engine and the added character of doing it in the sedan.”
That decision—to go with the sedan over the more common coupe—set the tone early. Different, intentional, and rooted in personal preference. Sedans definitely deserve more love if you ask us.
“The build has evolved pretty naturally over time. It started as a dual duty daily driver and fast track car and has gradually become a much more purpose-built competition car as I learned what the platform responds to and where the biggest gains really are.”
What sits today is a fully realized track machine: gutted, caged, aero-equipped, and built with a clear purpose. But more importantly, it’s the result of years of learning—not just modifying.

Unlocking Real Performance
“If I had to point to one area, it would be the suspension and alignment package. Power always gets attention, but what really makes a car quicker is confidence and consistency. Once the car became more predictable and easier to place, it became much easier to actually use all of the other performance parts that were already on it.”
Speed didn’t come just from adding more—it came from making everything work together.

The Moment It Clicked
“What hooked me was the combination of competition, precision, and constant self-improvement.”
Like many drivers, it only took one lap.
“The first time you put together a really clean lap on a road course, it kind of flips a switch. You realize how much there is to learn and how rewarding it is to keep chipping away at it.”
That mindset naturally led him toward time attack—and eventually to Bimmer Challenge.
“Time attack especially appealed to me because it rewards both driver development and smart car preparation.”

A Championship Built on Consistency
“The 2025 season was really about consistency, preparation and making the most of every event.”
That approach paid off: 77 points across 9 events and a B1 class championship.
“Wins at Buttonwillow CW13 twice, Big Willow, and Chuckwalla CW obviously mattered, but just as important were the weekends where I stayed disciplined, kept the car reliable and kept stacking points.”
“That consistency is really what won the championship.”
It’s a simple idea—but one that’s incredibly difficult to execute over an entire season in any form of motorsports.
Carrying Momentum into 2026
“Yes, I’m back in Bimmer Challenge for 2026, and the season has already started on a strong note.”
A podium to open the year, followed by multiple class wins, has Owen leading early in the standings—but the philosophy hasn’t changed.
“Right now the focus is refining the package I already have and continuing to improve reliability, consistency and execution rather than making changes just for the sake of it.”

Confidence Under Braking
When it comes to braking, Owen relies on Cobalt XR1 front and XR2 rear pads.
“The biggest difference has been consistency and confidence.”
“In a car like the E9x M3, having a pad that gives repeatable braking points, strong modulation and a clean release makes a huge difference.”
It’s not just about stopping fast—it’s about control.
“The pads let me drive deeper into the brake zone without feeling like I’m guessing and they’ve made the car much easier to manage on corner entry and trail braking.”
“That kind of predictability matters a lot when you’re trying to be precise lap after lap.”
Why We Come Back
“Honestly, it’s all of it—the people, the competition, the problem-solving, the opportunity to keep improving and the chance to drive great tracks with other good drivers around you.”
Even at a competitive level, the community remains part of the draw.
“Even in a competitive environment, people are still willing to help each other, share knowledge and make the whole thing fun. That mix is hard to beat.”

Future Goals
“My goal is to keep refining both the car and myself as a driver. I’m more interested in making the overall package better than just changing parts for the sake of change. Long term, I want to keep improving, keep learning new tracks and continue building a car that can run at a high level consistently.”
Measured, intentional, and always evolving—is what defines both Owen and his build.
